Located in the Design Department (from October 2025 Faculty of Design) of HAW Hamburg, GREEN CYCLES is an interdisciplinary research approach between textile design and clothing engineering.

Durban University of Technology (DUT), South Africa
With our partner College DUT Durban, GREEN CYCLES is developing growing links with the Department of Textile Science and Apparel Technology, which is part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Student and staff mobility. Issues include mutual cultural exchange, cultural sustainability and postcolonial discourses, sustainable exchange into the future, local materials and technologies, strategies of textiles and clothing sustainability, Second Life, Circular Textiles.

Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Baltimore, USA
As Partner College of HAW Hamburg Textile Design, a developing connection has been established between the textile design areas of both Colleges,embraced by the HAW GOES USA strategy. Both institutions and study areas strongly profit from mutual exchange and opportunities for both student and staff mobility. The campus of Textile Design at MICA is located in a historic and disused railway station, which also includes a gallery space.

German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH), New York, U.S.A.
GREEN CYCLES located at HAW Hamburg, and as part of the German Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS7) followed an invitation of the DWIH New York to their FUTURE FORUM Format FABRICATING THE FUTURE. Strengthening research in the Applied Universities context and representing the HAW Hamburg, GREEN CYCLES contributed representing contemporary innovation and research in the field of textiles and sustainability from Germany.

Goethe-Institut (Project IKAT/eCUT) Bangkok, South East Asia
Several times the Goethe-Institut Bangkok acted as partner to the GREEN CYCLES symposium, with also co-hosting the first international symposium GREEN CYCLES, which took place at the Bangkok ART and CULTURE CENTER (BACC). Both institutions HAW Hamburg and Goethe-Institut Bangkok underlined the strong synergies between Germany and Thailand.

KMITL Institute, Bangkok, Thailand
For a decade now, there has been a sucessful connection in both directions between Textile Design at King Mongkut’s Institute Ladkrabang / School of Architecture, Art and Design in Bangkok and Textile Design at HAW Hamburg inc. student and staff mobility. Several participations and presentations in the GREEN CYCLES symposiums strengthened the exchange and awareness between different and similar cultural approaches to textile sustainability.

Wälderhaus, Internationale Bauausstellung (IBA), Hamburg, Germany
Traveling in Hamburg across the river Elbe to the city isle of Wilhelmsburg, GREEN CYCLES and the Wälderhaus as part of the international building exhibition teamed up as partners to host and house a symposium. This connected different parts of the city as well as seeking approaches together, to make Hamburg a greener city regarding its textile and clothing issues.
